Saturday 20th June, 7.30am Wapley Hill Car Park

Pete Jennings has been the County Bird Recorder for Radnorshire for 25 years and will take you to see and hear birds of a summer morning.

Wapley hill has an ancient fort with commanding views of the surrounding countryside and is a well-known landmark on Mortimer’s Trail.

Time: 2 hours

Directions: From Titley take B4356 towards Presteigne. After half a mile take a right turn to Staunton on Arrow.
In Stansbatch turn left and follow the road for approximately one mile. Wapley Hill car park is on the left.

Saturday 20th June, 6.30pm Moccas Park, HR2 9LH

Moccas Park is one of the largest and most diverse examples of wood pasture remaining in Britain, ranking in national importance alongside the New Forest, Windsor Great Park and Sherwood Forest. We will walk from the top of the park and admire the view that Repton and Capability Brown incorporated in their rides. We should see some of the 13 species of bat known to inhabit the park. The ticket will include a hog roast (see below).

Directions: We will meet at the car parking field. There will be a minibus to ferry people up to the top of the walk. Take the B4355 from Titley
to Kington. Then take the A4111 from Kington through Eardisley. Continue on past turning to Hay (the road becomes A438).After 1 1/2 miles
take a right hand turn to Bredwardine. At T junction, turn right and cross the bridge over the Wye. At the T junction turn left on B4352 and
follow the road for 2 miles. The car park is on left.

We are organising a hog roast next to the park where you will be able to enjoy some fine Herefordshire pork with other delights.
For those who are unable to join us for the walk there are tickets for the hog roast only.

Directions: Take the B4355 from Titley to KIngton. Then take the A4111 from Kington through Eardisley. Continue on past turning to Hay (the road becomes A438). After 1 1/2 miles take

Sunday 21st June, 10.00am, Titley Village Hall, HR5 3RL

Former Director of Oxford University’s Botanic Gardens, Timothy Walker believes that there is no technical reason why a plant species should be allowed to become extinct. There are many disheartening stories about the state of the world’s plants. But there are also many examples of how thousands of people are making very significant contribution to maintaining biodiversity, and you may be one of them. Timothy will explain.

Sunday 21st June, 2.00pm Stagg Meadow information tent, Titley HR5 3RL

Built in 1705 by the 5^th Earl of Oxford, Eywood was demolished in 1954. The landscaped park and various estate houses remain. The walk will take in Titley Pool nature reserve and approach Eywood via its serpentine driveway. It will return to Stagg meadow passing the remains of the abandoned house. Mark Birchley, a local historian, will guide you round this historic and romantic site.

Directions: Assemble at the information tent on the festival site.

Sunday 21st June, 2.00pm Meet at Quebb Corner Meadow, HR3 6LP

Neville Hart, reserve manager, will lead a walk that takes in two very different reserves managed by Herefordshire Nature Trust.

For many years now, Quebb Corner Meadow has been managed as a hay meadow with aftermath grazing and without the use of herbicides or artificial fertilisers. We hope to show you species typical of old meadows: pignut, lesser knapweed and in the wetter areas, lesser spotted orchids amongst others. There is about a 1 mile walk along a public footpath to Upper Welson Marsh. This is a beautiful secret spot surrounded by dappled woodland where we hope to see the marsh helleborine, orchids, ragged robin and cotton grass.

Time: 2.5 hours

Directions: Take the B4355 from Titley to Kington. Then take the A4111 from Kington. After about 3 miles you will pass Bollingham house and church on the right. Half way down the hill you will see a right hand turn and a lay by. Turn right – the meadow is about 100 yards down the lane. There will be parking.

Noel Kingsbury, the internationally recognised writer, teacher and consultant in garden and landscape ecology will be leading a workshop which

tries to understand the concept of ecology. Using the woods, hedgerows and fields in the grounds of Newport House we will look at plant communities
- at why wildflowers, grasses, trees and shrubs grow where they do. What animal life will they support? What impact does human intervention make?
How can we manage gardens or land we have to support the maximum biodiversity?
This is an introduction to some basic concepts of ecology, with a focus on plants. It assumes very little knowledge and approaches technical information in an entertaining and easy-to-grasp way. Participants' enjoyment of the countryside will be enhanced through an understanding of how it functions.

£65 per person per chosen day, including a hearty home made lunch prepared with produce from the walled garden. All profits go to The Cart Shed.
